Products & Facilities

Overview of Our Products

Our upstream business is an integrated aluminum produced with operations in bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminum smelting. Our smelter produced approximately 13% of total primary aluminum production in the U.S., during 2011. Our downstream business, or rolling mills, is a leader producer of aluminum foil and light gauge sheets. Noranda offers heavy gauge foil products, such as finstock and semi-rigid container stock; light gauge converter foils used for packaging applications; and consumer foils and light gauge sheet products, including transformer windings and building products.

Primary Aluminum

We produce primary aluminum products at our smelter facility in New Madrid, Missouri, which began production in 1971.

Cut BilletExtrusion Billet: an aluminum log that is produced in many different diameters and cut to various lengths. The billet is heated to a plastic state and hydraulically forced through a die to obtain desired shape. Extrusion billet is used in the manufacturing of residential and commercial windows, shower enclosures, computer heat sinks, and decorative trim.

Primary AluminumRedraw Rod: is manufactured in five thousand-pound coils that are produced by drawing aluminum rod through a series of dies to obtain the desired thickness. Redraw rod is used in the manufacturing of electrical wire and various types of cable, as well as for deoxidizing steel.

Foundry AlloyFoundry Alloy: an aluminum alloy, weighing as much as thirty pounds, or up to twenty seven hundred pounds, that is alloyed, melted and then cast into the desired shape. Some products that are made using foundry ingot are automotive wheels, truck hubs and gas pump nozzles.

Rolled Products

In addition to primary aluminum products, Noranda also manufactures rolled and sheet products. Our precision crafted foil is used in fin stock, both on the HVAC and automotive markets, cable wrap, semi-rigid containers, insulation, flexible packaging, as well as in household and institutional applications. Coated foil is available for HVAC fin stock, semi rigid containers and several other applications. All of these products are available in a comprehensive range of gauges, tempers and widths. Strict controls ensure that customer specifications and our own quality standards are always met or exceeded.
